Storyline: Desaad spoke with Darkseid. The god said he would soon recreate existence.
Duella, the Joker's daughter (from another Earth) kidnapped an entertainer, but Red Hood stopped her and let the girl free. Duella was then attacked and killed by a Monitor. Another Monitor appeared and stopped his brother from killing Jason Todd. One of them traveled to the Source Wall looking for answers. A great disaster was coming and Ray Palmer was the solution.
Mary Marvel was released from the hospital. Freddie paid her bills and left a note for her not to look for him. Her magic word no longer worked.
Pied Piper spied on Heatwave and Trickster.


Countdown #50

Subtitle: Last Laugh

Storyline: Superman helped Jimmy Olsen on a story by helping him find Jason Todd. Todd told him everything he knew about the Joker's Daughter's murder, then suggested he visit Arkham. He did, but the only thing he got out of Joker was that he had no daughter and she was some sort of doppelganger.
Mary Batson visited Madame Xanadu. She told her she had magic in her destiny and if she ever regained her power to stay away from Gotham City - it isn't safe for magic.
Batman and Black Lightning tested Val Armorr, who was calling himself Trident. After a sparring session, they prepared to take him to the Hall of Justice.
The Rogues were still suspect of Piper and Trickster, but planned to meet with Inertia.


Countdown #49

Subtitle: Stretching the Truth

Storyline: Killer Croc escaped his handlers and attacked Jimmy Olsen in Arkham. Olsen appeared to "stretch" out of his way a la Elongated Man or Plastic Man. He was as surprised as Croc and the guards.
Monitors talked about the Joker's Daughter incident.
Trickster and Piper got their "in" with the Rogues by hypnotizing a rich man to transfer all his money to them then jump off his yacht.
Mary Batson found Black Adam in the abandoned Consulate of Kahndaq in Gotham. Adam killed several men who had followed her.

Storyline: Mary told Adam she felt drawn to his location. He called his powers a curse.
Jimmy told Perry White he didn't have a story. White sent him out to find more from Jason Todd. Energy blasts fell from the sky like lightning. Olsen headed to the streets to get some photos. He saved a family using superspeed. Again, he had no idea how he did it. New God Lightray fell from the sky and died. Superman arrived on the scene and headed up to investigate. He saw a figure disappearing into a boom tube.
The Titans held a graveside service for Duela Dent. Jason Todd crashed and asked Donna about living on borrowed time.
Karate Kid (Val Armorr) and Starman talked on the JLA satellite. Starman told him Dr. Impossible was behind him arriving at this time.

Trickster and Piper talked about their motivations to be back with the Rogues.
Black Adam gave Mary Batson all his power, saying he'd lived long enough with the burden.
Amazons attacked Washington DC.

Storyline: Jimmy got a call on a story about the death of Lightray and went out to investigate. He encountered a creature from the realm of the New Gods named Sleez. The same figure appeared above and killed him.
Mary Marvel saw five pregnant women in a seance. A demon arose and devoured them. He was made of babies. She defeated it and left it for the cops. The Rouges finally met with Captain Cold and Inertia.
Jason Todd met again with Donna Troy to talk about Duela. He believed the Monitor had an evil twin and was the killer. The Monitors dispatched their Forerunner to take care of the meddling anomalies.

Karate Kid and Dream Girl got a bit stir crazy being confined to the JLA satellite, but they didn't know why they were in the 21st century.

Storyline: Mary was summoned to the Rock of Eternity by Billy / Captain Marvel / Shazam. He was concerned about the way she'd fought the demon, the brutality of it. She told him she got her powers from Black Adam. He didn't approve of this, either. She left in a huff.
Monarch approached Forerunner and talked her up to her insecurities. She joined him.
Jimmy, believing his powers only activated when he was in danger, walked through gang territory and was attacked by thugs. Spines flew forth from his body and struck them. They fled, but he was still confused.
Holly was taken to an Amazon women's shelter.
Piper and Trickster went into hiding after the death of the Flash (Bart Allen). They tried to convince themselves they weren't the ones who'd killed him, that they were simply there.

Storyline: A funeral was held for Bart Allen - the Flash. Jay Garrick, Cyborg, Wonder Girl (Cassie), and Robin (Tim) all spoke. Robin also played a video Bart recorded when he was Kid Flash.
After the funeral, Piper and Trickster were captured by Deadshot.
Donna took the Monitor and Jason Todd away to talk about his quest for Ray Palmer in the "nanoverse."
Monarch showed Forerunner the army he was building in the Bleed. She was to be his general. He told her her people had all been killed.
Holly got comfortable with the Amazons and was introduced to Harleen Quinzell.

Storyline: Piper and Trickster woke up in their costumes and cuffed to each other. The cuffs gave off an electric shock when they were tensed. They were able to escape, but they didn't think their clever plan through as their escape was from an airplane. In midair.
Mary Marvel saw an explosion and Riddler in the same place and suspected the former crook. He convinced her he was following a lead and they uncovered Clayface. She shot him into space. Batman was watching. He was approached by Karate Kid, who told him the Legion members were heading back to their time.
Holly felt the women's shelter was a little too good to be true.
The Monitor, Jason, and Donna enlisted the help of the Atom, Ryan Choi, in their search for Ray Palmer, the other Atom.

Storyline: Trickster was able to break their fall with his flying boots. They fell into and swam out of Gotham Harbor.
Jimmy fashioned himself a costume - Mr. Action - and wore it under his clothes to work.
Donna, Jason, Ryan, and "Bob" the Monitor (he had no name, so Jason gave him one) continued their search for Ray Palmer.
Holly and Harley dealt with their situation in Athena's shelter while the Amazons Attack continued.
The Legion members, save for Karate Kid and Triplicate Girl (Una) headed back to their own time.

Countdown #40

Subtitle: Small Wonders

Storyline: The heroes in the Palmerverse were attacked by a tribe. They did not like the mention of Palmer, nor did they like Ryan wearing his costume. Jason stopped the fight by sticking a blade to their leader's nose.
Jimmy Olsen's first appearance as Mr. Action was successful. He fought a gang off that were attacking a street vendor.
Mary Marvel sought out Zatanna, who was performing on a cruise ship.
Holly began to question things when a single mother and her child were turned away from the shelter.
A bug watched as Darkseid prepared more parademons.
Piper and Trickster found temporary sanctuary in the Iceberg Lounge. Oracle found them and sent the Question.

The Suicide Squad went in after Trickster and Piper, but they were able to escape. Thinking they were free, they encountered the Question and Batwoman.
The Palmerverse heroes went into subquantum space.
Mr. Action struck again, saving a woman's purse. She gave him a kiss and he pondered which team he should join.

  • As of issue 50, Jimmy Olsen knows Jason Todd / Red Hood and Dick Grayson / Nightwing are both former Robins.
