Storyline: Batman asked Azrael to go to Washington DC to guard Senator Halivan - one of Gotham City's few supporters. Oracle updated Azrael on the senator's itinerary - he'd be speaking at a Nicholas Scratch concert. Scratch, arguably one of the biggest celebrities on the planet, planned to kill the senator. Azrael saved him from an ambush, but Scratch killed him in his dressing room after the show.

Storyline: Bruce and Alfred packed up for their trip to Washington, DC. Nick Scratch plotted against him and broke Garfield "FireFly" Lynns free from police custody. Bruce prepared to speak on Gotham City's behalf though odds were stacked heavily against him.

Storyline: Firefly blew up a chemical company; Nightwing and Robin raced to the scene with Bruce in DC. The Gordon's discussed the possibility of leaving Gotham City. The current and former Boy Wonders saved Firefly from his own inferno though he suffered horrible burns. Nick Scratch continued to lobby against Gotham.

Storyline: Arkham Asylum continued its downward spiral; Jeremiah Arkham and one other man comprised the entire staff. It was realized that medication records had been altered.

Storyline: When Azrael entered Nick Scratch's dressing room, he found Senator Halivan dead at the rock star's feet. Scratch screamed for help and framed Azrael for the senator's murder. He chased the vigilante across the stage so that it would surely be filmed. Batman met Jean Paul in his hotel room and told him to burn his outfit - Azrael was to be no more.

Storyline: Nightwing and Robin took down the so-called "Dynamiteer" who claimed he'd been hired by the devil. James Gordon interviewed for a position outside Gotham but was laughed at. Back in his city, an attempt was made on his life. Nightwing and Robin went after a crazy man destroying things with a jackhammer.

Storyline: Completely out of staff, food, and medication; unable to get outside help, Arkham opened its doors and let the inmates free. Jeremiah Arkham made them promise not to return to Gotham, knowing they wouldn't listen and would be trapped in when the bridges were blown.

Subtitle: The Devil his Due (part of Road to No Man's Land)

Storyline: Gothamites were given 48 hours to get out of the city before it was to be dropped from the union. Nicholas Scratch hired an assassin to kill Bruce Wayne, but the sniper missed and killed Mayor Grange instead. With Gotham's deadline passed, bridges leading out of the city began to be destroyed.

Subtitle: Fight or Flight 3: 30 Seconds to Midnight (part of Road to No Man's Land)

Artists(s): William Rosado, Sal Buscema
Storyline: Gearhead, hired by Scratch to kill Batman, found only Nightwing and Robin. Scratch's men blew up a bridge with him on it; the heroes escaped. Another group of Scratch's men reported back to their boss that they'd still not located Bruce Wayne. Joker killed them. Nightwing and Robin returned to Wayne Manor to find it bulldozed.
