Storyline: Bruce Wayne had been Bruce Wayne for too long. After disappearing during the DC hearings on Gotham, he ended up in Monaco, France, Rio, etc. He let himself get beaten up and was rescued by Talia. She reminded him of who he was, and he returned home. When there, he found that Gotham had not been without a Bat - Huntress had become Batgirl. He watched her quietly from afar.

Storyline: LexCorp moved into NML overnight to begin rebuilding Gotham City. Jobs were offered promised to anyone who would take them. Batman visited Luthor and claimed to have inside information on him. Luthor thought he was bluffing. Bruce Wayne contacted Lucius Fox about the status of their property in Gotham. Joker made his first move.

Storyline: Luthor got word that Joker had destroyed one of his sites each of the last seven nights. He ordered Mercy to take him down. She and Bane stopped his next strike. Batman visited Bane. Luthor had promised his mercenary the island of Santa Prisca for his efforts in NML. Batman told him he should take it soon - Luthor would be in no position to make the deal happen in the near future. Public opinion began to sway heavily in favor of rebuilding Gotham City. Plans were for it to reopen on January 1.

Storyline: With aid coming in from all over in attempt to end No Man's Land, Joker prepared to make his big move. Jim Gordon was officially reinstated as Commissioner of Police. Batman had Oracle call in all his agents and they met with the GCPD. Gordon agreed to send his troops out looking for Joker. Pettit called a mandatory Christmas Eve get-together for all people living in his sector; Joker showed up to crash the party.

Storyline: With Pettit's sanity already in question, he sent his troops to battle. Joker began capturing his men, putting them in green wigs and purple coats, and letting Pettit kill them. Bill refused to listen to reason and shot another of his own men who was trying to go get reinforcements. Huntress took him down and stood between Joker's men and the Strong Man compound. She took down twelve of his men before Joker shot her three times.

Storyline: Nightwing and Batman arrived to find Huntress in bad shape. She warned them that Joker had taken the children; Batman told her she did a good job. Nightwing rushed her to Dr. Thompkins' clinic. The BatSquad met again with GCPD - Joker had 70 pounds of semtex and 36 children. Dolls filled with the semtex began exploding every time someone had a lead. Sarah Essen-Gordon found Joker and the children at police headquarters. He tossed her an infant and shot her as she attempted to catch it. Joker surrendered as Gordon and Batman arrived. With his wife dead, Gordon ordered the clown arrested and broke down in Batman's arms.

Storyline: Sarah Essen-Gordon's funeral was held. Lex Luthor made his move to steal all the land in Gotham City (most of the owners were either dead or financially unable to take him to court). Lucius Fox reported to Bruce Wayne, then went to confront Luthor. Batman, knowing what the outcome would be, stopped Mercy from killing Fox after Luthor gave her the order. Nightwing visited Helena in the hospital; Gordon visited his wife's grave.
