Bane took Batman's unconscious body into the city and tossed him from a rooftop. Jean Paul, Tim, and Alfred arrived quickly in an ambulance and carted Batman off. After hearing the news of Batman, Joker turned on Scarecrow. Back in the cave, Alfred tried to stabilize Bruce. He sent Azrael and Robin into town for medication. Robin told Gordon what was happening, and the medication was ordered by the commissioner.

Storyline: With Batman down, Bane began attacking and absorbing gangs across Gotham City. Dr. Kinsolving was asked to be Bruce Wayne's personal doctor for the immediate future while he recovered from his "car accident." Bane's crew caught Catwoman; she was asked to pay Bane tribute. With Bruce's blessing, Tim asked Jean Paul to fill in as Batman.

Storyline: Batman and Robin took down some street punks; Robin had to stop Batman from going too far. Jean Paul Valley reminded Robin that he was Batman now. They shook down "Tough" Tony Bressi and got some leads on Bane. Bruce went to see Dr. Shondra Kinsolving, who was treating Jack Drake. When he got there, they were being kidnapped. Bruce was hurt further in the struggle, but Alfred soon arrived.

Storyline: Professor Jonathan Crane engineered an experiment at a Gotham college under an assumed name. Anarky broke out of a juvenile detention center and decided that Batman had created all his enemies, therefore should be taken down. Jean Paul Valley went out as Batman. Scarecrow's experiment left his subjects under his complete control. Together, they went on a rampage.

Storyline: After hearing reports of Scarecrow's activities, Batman went out for him. Crane's minions unleashed their fear gas across Gotham City. Anarky took down one of them while Batman saved patrons of a burning restaurant.

Storyline: Scarecrow demanded Gotham to declare him a god. He contacted Commissioner Gordon and threatened him with a tanker-truck full of fear gas (which was a diversion - he planned on unleashing in Gotham City's water supply). Batman zeroed in on him and caught him. Anarky, who was there first, captured them both. Fear gas struck both Batman and Anarky; Jean Paul's programming defeated the gas and he took down Scarecrow and Anarky.

Storyline: Bruce and Alfred readied for a trip to Santa Prisca to rescue Dr. Kinsolving and Jack Drake. Batman returned to the cave; Bruce asked him to keep it up while they were gone. Selina Kyle stowed away on the Wayne jet to Santa Prisca. Batman and Robin took down Bane's men and saved some kidnapped children. Tim realized his father was missing.

Storyline: With Bane's men in custody, Batman visited Commissioner Gordon. He then freed Trogg, Bird, and Zombie; he followed them back to Bane. The new Batman fought Bane.

Subtitle: Dark Angel - Knightfall 19

Storyline: Batman survived the fall from a building and Bane escaped. Back in the cave, Tim and Jean Paul talked. Batman no longer needed Robin. Jean Paul continued designing his new costume. Nightwing came to Gotham, where he learned the details from Robin. He was upset that Bruce didn't come to him. Jean Paul went out in his new costume, more Azrael than Batman. Bane put forth a challenge, Az-Bat accepted. On orders from the mayor, the police stood down as they fought. Az-Bat took out Bane's supply of venom, leaving him a normal human. Bane fled. They met up again and continued their fight on an elevated train. Robin showed up and freed the passenger cars from the lead car. Az-Bat defeated Bane and left him for the police.
