Storyline: Batman and Sasha Bordeaux (Bruce's bodyguard) went out on patrol. They stopped a bank robbery and split up. When she arrived back at Wayne Manor, she found Bruce standing above the dead body of his girlfriend, Vesper Fairchild. The police were there to arrest them both.

Storyline: Bruce Wayne and Sasha Bordeaux were taken into custody. The investigation began - Allen and Montoya got the case. Fairchild's body had four bullet wounds; there were three more on the floor nearby. Allen questioned Wayne, Montoya questioned Bordeaux. Neither got any answers. The 911 call was played for each of them.

Storyline: Oracle intercepted a 911 from Wayne Manor. She heard it all as it happened - the murder of Vesper Fairchild. She sent Batgirl in to the crime scene to be her eyes, but due to technical difficulties, she got no video. What was believed to be the murder weapon - a pistol - was found outside the home. Batgirl realized for the first time that Bruce was Batman.

Storyline: Officer Grayson heard about Bruce's arrest while at work. He got himself reassigned to prisoner transport. He dropped off his inmate at Blackgate and visited Bruce. He went to Oracle after Bruce refused help. In Lockhaven, Soames and Tad slipped some drugs into Aaron "Amygdala" Hellzinger's food, contradicting his medication. Amygdala lost control and went berzerk. A fire was started.

Storyline: Bruce was denied bail at his arraignment due to flight risk. Alfred returned to Wayne Manor for the first time since Commissioner Gordon was shot. Barbara offered her services as an attorney to Bruce - she'd taken correspondence courses in her spare time and received a degree from Harvard. He refused and told her he'd need her elsewhere.

Oracle had Black Canary investigate Vesper Fairchild. She found that the reporter was doing an expose on Batman. Barbara interviewed Sasha as a Wayne attorney. She again said nothing.

Storyline: Tim saw Alfred away. Spoiler tried to get into the cave, but found she was locked out (along with Batgirl). One of Tim's friends, Kip, and his computer were taken at gunpoint from their dorm. Jack Drake's financial advisor met with him - his stocks had taken a dive. Drake was broke.

Sasha had her own run-in with a prison bully but made short work of her attacker. She met with her lawyer, but again, they made no progress. After a sleepless night, her bully got the upper hand. As Sasha began to doubt Bruce, they connected for an instant as the fight was broken up.

Storyline: Nightwing was surprised when Robin entertained the idea that Bruce might be guilty. Alfred felt the same at Leslie Thompkins. Oracle convinced Nightwing to hear Robin out and be there for him. They went out on patrol and Nightwing refused to believe he might be guilty. He went to visit Alfred; Leslie visited Bruce in jail.

Storyline: Tim got back to his dorm after attempting to chase down Kip's kidnappers. There, he found they'd taken the wrong computer. On Kip's machine, he found that he was into online gambling and had won quite a bit at it. He got some information on the websites from the Clocktower as Oracle and Black Canary checked out a tap - with Alfred's help, they marked J. Devlin Davenport off their suspect list. Robin and Spoiler rescued Kip. Tim's dad told him about their financial woes.

Oracle heard from Ted - his heart problem was degenerative. At his home, Kord found a robotic bug and a message from Quam, his competitor - he was doing a hostile take over. The bug attacked Kord. Black Canary helped evict the unwanted guests (Riddler, Cluemaster) from Spoiler's home. Robin and Oracle were going over details when they learned Bruce had escaped from prison.

Storyline: In Wayne Manor, Batman thought back on the past, and the people he'd loved - Vesper, Silver, Selina, Dick, Alfred, Jason, and Jim. In the cave, Robin, Batgirl, and Nightwing were waiting for him. He informed them Bruce Wayne had fled the country on a private jet. They questioned him; he refused to answer. Nightwing flew off the handle when he said Bruce was just a mask he wore in the daytime. Batman evaded him and left after Nightwing accidentally broke the glass on Jason's memorial.
