Azrael ongoing 2011 (issues 14-18)

Issue #14

Cover Date: January 2011
Subtitle: Three Mysteries part one: A Dream within a Dream
Writer(s): David Hine
Artists(s): Cliff Richards
Storyline: Michael continued to dream of Father Grieve and how he'd killed him with his bare hands. He whipped himself. Everyone knew he was near the end of his sanity. Ra's al Ghul told the White Ghost the suit would be his if Lane failed.
Bruce told Dick (both as Batman/men) to invite Azrael to join Batman, Incorporated. When Batwing approached Azrael, he was struck with the Sword of Sin. Batwing fell, but didn't die. The next morning, Bruce told Dick about Lane's suicide. He'd crucified himself.

Issue #15

Cover Date: February 2011
Subtitle: Three Mysteries part two: Voices in an Empty Room
Writer(s): David Hine
Artists(s): Cliff Richards
Storyline: Batwing spoke with the police on Lane's death. His former partner, Pete Perilli, confirmed he was with him. He helped him get on the cross after he'd stabbed himself. Batwing also spoke with Jenny, his sister-in-law (who'd killed his brother and sister). She said Michael had visited her as well. His death was not a surprise to her.
Batwing took a sample of the suit and heard voices. The White Ghost and an unknown accomplice stole the suit and Lane's body. They were taken to Ra's al Ghul. The Suit of Sorrows, when repaired, had been mixed with fluids from a Lazarus Pit.

Issue #16

Cover Date: March 2011
Subtitle: Three Mysteries part three: Fire the Color of Ice
Writer(s): David Hine
Artists(s): Cliff Richards
Storyline: David awakened in what might have been purgatory. He carried his burden (Father Grieve) down a path as all the victims of previous Azraels followed. He had to make it to the end of the road in three days in order to be resurrected.
Batman and Batwing staked out Ra's al Ghul's home. Ra's invited Bruce in to witness and speak with Lane once he awakened. After, Bruce told Dick Azrael would not join Batman, Inc, but would be their ally.
Lane, upon re-entering the land of the living, was told he was now the master of the suit - it would no longer burden him.

Issue #17

Cover Date: April 2011
Subtitle: The Tears of God part one: Shock and Awe
Writer(s): David Hine
Artists(s): Cliff Richards
Storyline: Father Day was re-introduced to Michael. Azrael met with Batman (Bruce) before heading into Afghanistan in search of a weapon called Fireball. Fireball was a boy who had the ability to explode things.

Issue #18

Cover Date: May 2011
Subtitle: The Tears of God part two: Fire and Sand
Writer(s): David Hine
Artists(s): Cliff Richards
Storyline: Azrael and Fireball did battle, but neither could kill the other. Ra's al Ghul, Fireball's teacher, arrived as Fireball's village was destroyed. He took the boy and Azrael back to Gotham City.

notes

  • Issues 14-15, 17-18 contain the Batman, Inc. banner and show both Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson as Batman.
  • Issue 14 takes place 6 months and 6 days after issue 1 (per issue 1).
  • For sake of clarity, "Batwing" here refers to Dick Grayson as Batman (BATman + nightWING), not the African member of Batman, Inc.
  • Issue 18 says to be continued in Batman 708.
